The second solo painting exhibition of artist Nurun Naher Supti is drawing enthusiastic  crowd everyday at the Galerie Zoom of Alliance Française de Dhaka.
Titled ‘Woman in Gossamer’, the art show drew a large number of art aficionados, especially students from different fine arts institutions, on Wednesday, the seventh day of the event.
The exhibition inaugurated  on December 05 will remain open to all from 3:00pm to 9:00pm on working days and from 9:00am to 12:00pm on holidays until December 19
Earlier, prominent artist Rafiqun Nabi inaugurated the exhibition at a gala opening ceremony as chief guest while Director of Alliance Française de Dhaka Olivier Litvine was there as special guest on December 05.
With a view to encouraging and patronising art works of the country, Alliance Française de Dhaka has arranged the two-week exhibition.
A total of 22 paintings, skillfully done in acrylic media by artist Nurun Naher Supti, have been put on display at the two-week exhibition.
The painting show represents the invisible suffering of the woman which can be compared to the gossamer of hindrances. Women are said to be sheepish and soft and reluctant to raise their voice. Besides, the vehement force of uncertainty compels them to obey to higher authority.
Artist Nurun Naher Supti tries to express the untold smothering feelings felt by women through his works. She used her daily experience and realisation as the materials for her works.
Being a female artist, it has become easy for her to translate the inner words of women into paintings. The use of different kind of media helps her to display those expressions vividly that are widely seen in our families and societies.
Through her paintings, she wishes to introduce the hindrances plaguing women. She hopes such endeavour will help to stir conscious minds to extend their benevolent hands to deprived women.
Nurun Nahher Shupti was born in Munshiganj in 1972. She is the daughter of late Shafiuddin Ahmed, who was a veteran journalist and freedom fighter.
Supti passed her childhood in the garden of nature. In her artistic endeavour, she was greatly inspired and motivated by her first teacher late Abdul Hye, a renowned artist and singer.
She obtained her MFA from the Department of Drawing and Painting, Institute of Fine Arts, the University of Dhaka. After completion of her BFA from drawing and paintings department, she devoted herself to experimental art works. Her first solo painting exhibition was held at the same venue in 1996.
