Shibir goes berserk in Ctg

A passer-by was injured in the rampage unleashed at around 1pm in the city’s Andarkilla area.

The injured, Pulak Das, 28, was caught up in the mayhem while returning from a job interview, said Chittagong police’s Assistant Commissioner Mirza Sayem Mahmud.

Witnesses said Shibir activists, marching in a procession, hurled 10-12 crude bombs and damaged several auto-rickshaws, a bus and a truck before fleeing.

Pulak Das was injured when Shibir activists went berserk, hitting passers-by with sticks bdnews24.com’s photo-journalist Suman Babu reported from the scene.

Chittagong police’s Assistant Commissioner Mirza Sayem Mahmud said 34 activists including 10 top local Shibir leaders had been arrested from the port city’s Chandanpura area during a police raid in the early hours of Tuesday.

Shibir took out the procession and indulged in violence in protest against the arrests.

“The arrested Shibir activists have been accused of attacking police and damaging vehicles on Sep 17 at the city’s Enayet Bazaar area,” Kotowali police station’s OC AKM Mohiuddin Selim told bdnews24.com.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided the Shibir office at Enayet Bazaar and recovered a large number of batons, iron-chains, leaflets and posters, said the police officer.
