Shamim Osman threatens to quit AL politics

Influential local leader of the ruling party Shamim Osman on Monday threatened to quit Awami League politics if missing Jubo League leader Jahurul Islam Bhuiyan alias Parvez is not retuned within 24 hours.

“I’ll say goodbye to Awami League politics touching the feet of Sheikh Hasina if Jubo League leader Parvez is not found within 24 hours. That day will be a painful one for me,” he said while addressing a workers’ meeting of Awami League at Tularam College in the afternoon.

Unknown miscreants, posing as law enforcers, picked up Parvez, 35, from the capital’s Gulshan-2 area on Saturday afternoon.

Observing that they had much patience at the words of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for whom, as he said, he gave much more time than for his near ones, Shamim Osman said, “But bodies of my activists are being returned after making them disappeared. I’ve become tired by arranging janazas for the leaders and activists. I hate becoming MP on their bodies.”

He alleged that Narayanganj City Corporation mayor Dr Selina Hayat Ivy and Rafiur Rabbi kidnapped Parvez for the killing by hired goons in exchange for big amount of money.

Saying they have run out of patience, the Awami League leader announced to settle old scores on the streets. “As we’re being killed under all regimes, we won’t remain confined at home. We’ll die a heroic death,” he said, adding: “We won’t go to police station or court anymore.”

He accused Rafiur of doing business with the killing of his son Tanvir Mohammad Toki, and demanded the arrest of Toki’s cousin Arnab to unearth the mystery behind the murder and also the disappearance of Parvez.

Shamim also demanded that Ivy be interrogated in connection with the killing as she said earlier that she knew they killed the schoolboy.

He categorically said they will go to jail willingly if anyone can prove that they killed Toki.
