Seven murders: Minister says suspected ex-Rab men can’t flee abroad

State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan on Thursday said the three former Rab personnel who are believed to have been involved in the abduction and murder of seven people in Narayanganj will not be able to flee abroad as they are now under surveillance.

Talking to reporters at the Secretariat, the State Minister also noted that the former Rab officials will be arrested if the allegation against them is proved in the investigation.

He said a significant progress has been made in the investigation and no one will be spared whoever the criminal might be.

Asked whether Nur Hossain, the main accused in the abduction and the killing case, fled the country, the State Minister said they have no information about his escape to a foreign country.

“Drives are on to arrest all the criminals, including Nur Hossain. And we’ll be able to arrest them Inshallah (God willing),” he said.

On April 27, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver, were abducted by miscreants from Fatullah area of the city. Hours after their abduction, senior lawyer at district Judge’s Court Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were also abducted on their way to capital Dhaka.

Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan Kumar, were recovered from the Shitalakhya and Dhaleshwari rivers on April 30.

Another dead body was recovered from the Shitalakhya River on May 1.

Following an allegation by Nazrul Islam’s father-in-law Shahidul Islam, then Rab-11 commanding officer Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Muhammad along with two other officers — Major Arif Hossain L Commander Masud Rana – were removed from Rab in connection with the abduction and the killing.

On Wednesday, the State Minister for Home Affairs told the media that the alleged former Rab officials have been dismissed from their respective jobs in the army and the navy.
