Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed has said today that the schedule of the 10th parliamentary polls can be changed if the political parties reach an understanding over this.

“There are scopes for everything if an understanding is reached,” the CEC said replying to a query of the journalists at the EC secretariat.

Earlier in the afternoon, Election Commissioner Jabed Ali said the Election Commission (EC) was going to issue a direction for removing posters and billboards pasted and hanged by the parliamentary polls aspirants.

The EC will send letters to all concerned for taking immediate steps to remove such kinds of election campaigning materials in 48 hours, he told the reporters at the EC Secretariat.

Replying to a query, he said the decision about army deployment will be taken after assessment of the prevailing situation.

“The army will stay as long as it will be required for the sake of fair and peaceful situation,” Javed added.

“A meeting will be held in a day or two to weigh the law and order situation and at the meeting it will be decided from when the army will be deployed and how long it will stay,” he added.
