Pakistan Jamaat condemns Nizami’s death sentence

It questions silence of Pakistan government about the verdict

Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan has condemned the verdict of death sentence for war criminal Motiur Rahman Nizami.

The party also questioned “Pakistan government’s silence” about the verdict.

In a statement published on Wednesday, the ameer and the secretary general of Pakistan Jamaat commented on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Nizami’s death sentence.

Pakistan Jamaat Ameer Sirajul Haq said it was most unfortunate that the Pakistan government was maintaining a “criminal silence” over the convictions of the patriotic scholar who had sided with the Pakistan Army. He claimed that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had agreed on a deal on not having any war crimes trials.

He said that the such measures could not prolong the rule of “Bangladesh Prime Minister Haseena Wajid”.

However, Sirajul was confident that Bangladesh Jamaat would emerge victorious from this crisis.

Siraj said some time back, senior Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Mollah had been hanged to death “in a most inhumane way.”

Nizami has been sentenced to death for committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War. Justice M Enayetur Rahim, chairman of the three-member International Crimes Tribunal 1, delivered the much-delayed verdict at 12:20pm on Wednesday.

Eight of total 16 charges, which include conspiracy, planning, complicity, incitement and active participation in crimes against humanity, were proved, the International Crimes Tribunal 1 said.
