One arrested over Bangladeshi cab driver’s murder in US

Mohammed Kamal Uddin, 47, was found murdered on a secluded neighbourhood in Stamford on Wednesday morning local time.

His abandoned taxi, which had crashed into a wall, was found nearby.

Police say the Stamford Taxi employee was stabbed up to 16 times in his torso.

Stamford police arrested Shota Mekoshvili, 29, on the same day.

He was charged with murder and second-degree hindering prosecution on Wednesday night, reports The Hour.com.

Police suspect muggers posing as passengers might have killed the cab driver.

The knife used in the stabbing has not been recovered yet and police say they have no solid leads.

Kamal Uddin, hailing from Chittagong’s Anwara Upazilla, lived at the town’s Dotel Road with his wife and only child.

Police are expected to release more information about the suspect in custody at a press conference on Thursday local time.

This is not the first time a Bangladeshi national has been murdered in the state.

In August 2012, Belal Talukdar, 47, was shot dead by muggers at Hartford City.

The court sentenced Kezlin Mendez to 55 years in jail over the crime on Aug 13.
