KL job seekers start leaving country in Feb

The first batch of Bangladeshi workers intend to go to Malaysia is likely to leave the country late February or early March, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain said on Wednesday.

The Malaysian government recently decided to recruit 10,000 male workers from Bangladesh for its plantation sector.

The Ministry of Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment had received a formal request in this regard through the Kuala Lumpur High Commission on December 30 last year.

“Registration of the aspirant workers will begin across the country on January 13 to this effect,” the minister told this during a press briefing at the ministry’s conference room at noon.

The country was divided into seven divisions for the registration which would take place in three phases.

The intended workers will have to get registration at the Union Information and Service Centre (UISCs) in every upazila, he added.

In unavailability of UISCs in any division, the aspirant workers will have to report to the nearby union service centre for registration.

The three-day registration in Dhaka and Barisal divisions will start from January 13, while the registrations of Rajshahi, Rangpur and Sylhet divisions will take place from January 16 to 18.

The lottery of Dhaka and Barisal divisions; and Rajshahi, Rangpur and Sylhet divisions will be held on January 16 and 19 respectively at the deputy commissioner’s office in the districts.

The registration of the Khulna and Chittagong divisions will be held from January 19 to 21 and the lottery of those divisions will be held on January 22.

The minister said that after lottery, selected workers will undergo for 10-day training at 14 Technical Training Centres (TTC) across the country.

Asked how many workers will leave Malaysia in the first batch, the minister said the workers who could complete their training first would be selected for the first trip.
