Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday blasted Opposition Leader Khaleda Zia for her recent article that urged the US to interfere in Bangladesh’s internal affairs to save its democracy.
“After going through the article, it seems to me that she does not believe at all in country’s independence and sovereignty,” Hasina said at parliament. “This is why she wants to take Bangladesh into task by calling upon other country.”
In response to a query from Jatiya Party lawmaker Mujibul Haque, the premier also said the opposition leader wrote the article urging the Untied States to stand against the people of Bangladesh and its interests.
In her article published recently in Washington Times, Hasina said the BNP chief had cited America’s role in Bangladesh’s Liberation War and urged the country to come forward the way it helped Bangladesh in 1971.
Hasina, also Leader of the House, said the US was in favour of Pakistani occupation forces that were carrying out genocide in Bangladesh in 1971 and even the US sent seventh naval fleet to help Pakistani force.
“People will know her stance whether she was in favour or against the country’s independence,” Hasina said.
Earlier on January 31, ruling alliance MPs accused Khaleda, also the BNP chief, of committing sedition by urging the US to interfere in Bangladesh’s internal affairs through her article.
In her question answer, the premier also described her government’s various efforts to increase agriculture production and boost up country’s economy.
