Infiltration from Bangladesh is a security threat to India: RSS

In his annual Bijoya Dashami speech at RSS headquarters at Nagpur in Maharashtra, Bhagwat on Friday claimed the influx had not only caused “demographic imbalance” in the region but also resulted “in a law and order issue” and “posed a challenge for the country’s security.”

His speech was televised live for the first time by India’s national TV Doordarshan.

RSS is the ideological fountainhead of the BJP.

He blamed the “appeasement policies” of West Bengal and Assam governments.

“It is a section of the people who provide shelter and jobs to those who illegally enter into the country and spread across it,” the RSS chief said.

His remarks on illegal migrants come at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to enhance bilateral ties with Bangladesh.

Bhagwat’s remark, however, is in tune with the BJP’s avowed stand on the issue.

Only a few weeks ago, while campaigning for by-polls in West Bengal, BJP President Amit Shah had alleged that cross-border infiltration from Bangladesh had increased “five times” since 2011, after All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) came to power.
