Hartal for Thursday, demo Wednesday

Alongside its ongoing nationwide blockade, the BNP-led 20-party alliance has announced a fresh 24-hour countrywide hartal to be started on Thursday morning.
BNP joint secretary general Barkatullah Bulu came up with the announcement, in a statement, sent to the media, on Tuesday afternoon.

“The shutdown will be started at 6.00am from Thursday and ended at 6.00pm on Friday,” the statement also read.

“But the Dhaka and Chittagong city will be out of hartal purview for the upcoming city polls,” the statement added.

According to the statement, the alliance enforced the fresh shutdown in protest against the killing of opposition leaders and activists in the name of crossfire, repression, and filing of false cases against alliance leaders and demanding the release of all political prisoners.

The alliance also enforced the repeated shutdown demanding to give back the BNP`s disappeared leader Salahuddin Ahmed.

The alliance has been enforcing a non-stop nationwide transport blockade and hartal programmes one after another from January 6 as its chief Khaleda Zia was barred to come out from her Gulshan political office on January 5, first anniversary of 10th parliamentary polls, to address a rally marking the day as “Democracy Murder Day`.

Over 100 people have been killed in hartal-blockade related violence and hundreds of vehicles have been torched including those belongs to the law enforcers.
