A family member of slain Fazlul Karim, ex official of Criminal Investigation Department, talking to the reporters at a city hospital after criminals shot him dead at his residence in the city.

A retired additional superintendent of police was gunned down by unknown criminals at his West Rampura residence in the capital Thursday.

Fazlul Karim, 65, retired as an additional SP of Criminal Investigation Department (CID), police said.

Three miscreants entered the house of Karim around 9:00am and opened fire at him, Abu Yusuf, assistant commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told The Daily Star.

He died on the spot, the AC said.

One of the assailants aged around 22 shot on Karim’s head, Nurul Alam, assistant commissioner of Khilgaon Zone, said quoting Azad, a domestic help of victim.

A little later, 12-year-old Azad heard sounds of two gunshots, the official added.

Afroza Khan, wife of the deceased, Azad and another domestic help, Sumi, were present during the incident at the flat on second floor of a five-storey building in West Rampura area, Nurul Alam added.

Cartridges of two bullets were found at the spot, the police official said.

Victim’s daughter Farzana Karim said her father had a longstanding dispute with her uncle and cousins over properties at their village Ramkrishnadi in Munshiganj, Prothom Alo reports.

Her father might have been killed following the dispute, the daughter said.

The body has been taken to DhakaMedicalCollege morgue.
