Cyclone ‘Lehar’ moves northwestwards

The cyclonic storm, ‘Lehar’, with estimated centre pressure 1,000 hPa over the South Andaman sea and adjoining area moved northwestwards over the same area.

It centred at 3pm today (Sunday) about 1,340 kms south-southeast of Chittagong Port, 1,245 kms south-southeast of Cox’s Bazar Port and 1,420 kms south-southeast of Mongla Port.

It is likely to intensify further and move in a northwesterly direction, said the special bulletin-3 of the Met Office.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 54 kms of the cyclone centre is about 62 kph rising to 88 kph in gust/squalls. Sea will remain rough near the cyclone centre.

The maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Mongla have been advised to keep hoisted distant warning signal No two.

All the fishing boats and trawlers over the deep sea have been advised to come close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.

They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
