Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan today said police are investigating the case filed against Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir and law will take its own course.

“Whoever commits crime has to face the law. The incident is under investigation. We will share details after investigation is complete,” the minister told reporters at his Dhanmondi home.

On Monday night, police recovered body of a college student from a rented flat in Dhaka’s Gulshan area.

Hours later, her sister sued Bashundhara Group MD Sayem Sobhan Anvir over abetting her death by suicide.

Asked why Hefajat chief Junayed Babunagari was not being arrested even though he was an accused, the minister said the investigation of the cases filed against him is still on.

“Babunagari was arrested in 2013 after cases were filed against him. He was released on bail at the time,” he said.

The home minister said, “We see that Hefajat sometimes gets stuck in political entanglements and gets involved with identified militants and criminals who always act against the state, even though they mention in their constitution that they are not involved in politics.” This time, they attempted to commit similar incidents. They committed countrywide vandalism, arson attacks, he added.

“Putting everything together, they of course have political ambition…Investigators found that there is an ill-attempt to create another Shapla Chattar-like incident using Hefajat,” the minister said regarding recent spate of violence.
