The victim was identified as Sagar Barman, 10, son of Ratan Barman, of village Rajibpur at Kaliajuri in Netrokona. He worked with his father at Jobaida Textiles and Spinning Mills in Jatramura area at Rupganj .
The police said the boy succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the afternoon, only two hours after he became seriously sick when unidentified assailants poured air into his belly by pumping through rectum at his workplace.
The victim’s father Ratan Barman, who brought Sagar to the DMCH, said that he along with his colleagues rescued Sagar at about 1:15pm from a cotton store of their workplace where miscreants left his son seriously ill ‘by pouring air through his rectum’.
They immediately rushed his son to the DMCH in a senseless condition while the on-duty doctors declared him dead at about 3:15am, he said.
The DMCH police outpost officer-in-charge, sub-inspector Bachchu Mia, referring to the physicians, said the boy died of internal hemorrhage in his abdomen due to pressure of air.
