Bangladesh bags 4 prizes at APICTA Awards 2020-21

Bangladesh has bagged four prizes in different categories in the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards 2020-21.

Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) has won the award in “Public Sector and Digital Government” category with the project named “IoT based automatic power interruption monitoring System” and Islamic University of Technology (IUT) has bagged the prize in “Research and Development” category with the project titled “AUXILIO: A Head-mounted Mouse for People with Upper Limb Disability”.

Besides, the Institution of Diploma Engineers (IDEB) has received “Merit Award” from “Tertiary Student Category” with the project named “IoT Based Agriculture Productivity recommendation System” and Jhenaidah Polytechnic Institute has also received “Merit Award” from “Senior Student Category” with the project titled “IoT Based Smart Vending Machine for Sanitary Pad”.

APICTA Awards, which aims to increase ICT awareness in the community and assist in bridging the digital divide, held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This year, APICTA member country Malaysia hosted the award ceremony.

Led by the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), 40 projects in different categories took part in the competition from Bangladesh.

After successfully transiting through two capsules of the judging system, the four contestants bagged the prizes in the final round. The entire judging process was completed from September 1 to December 11, 2021. Finally, the winners were announced at a ceremony on December 15, 2021, according to a press release of BASIS.

This year, APICTA received more than 300 nominations from 260 teams representing Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Macao, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.

Each year, one of the members of APICTA hosts this award ceremony. BASIS hosted the APICTA Awards ceremony in 2017.
