Bangabandhu’s youngest sister Khadiza Hossain passes away

Khadiza Hossain, youngest sister of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, died of old-age complications at LabAid Hospital here early this morning. She was 82.

Khadiza Hossain, also paternal aunt of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, left behind three daughters and a son to mourn her death.

Her one of the daughters was Roji Jamal, wife of Sheikh Jamal, second son of Bangabandhu. Roji and Jamal were killed along with Bangabandhu in the August 15 massacre in 1975.

Khadiza Hossain was laid to eternal rest amid tributes at the Banani Graveyard in the city this afternoon.

Earlier, her namaz-e-janaza was held at Dhanmondi Mosque after Zohr prayers. A large number of people including relatives, well-wishers and Awami League leaders attended the janaza.

Hearing the death news of her aunt, Sheikh Hasina visited the
residence of Khadiza Hossain at Dhanmondi in the city this morning.

She stood in solemn silence beside the coffin of the deceased for some time, offered Fateha and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul. Sheikh Hasina also consoled the family members of the deceased.

Labour and Employment and Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Eng Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain expressed deep shock at the death of Khadiza Hossain.

In a condolence message, he prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
