Ask Tarique to hold tongue, Hasina advises Khaleda

United News of Bangladesh . Dhaka

Issuing a strong warning to Tarique Rahman for his disparaging remarks about Bangabandhu, the prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday advised Bangladesh Nationalist Party chief Khaleda Zia to ask her spoiled son to hold his tongue.

‘I would like to tell the BNP chief, ask your spoiled son to hold his tongue,’ the prime minister said while addressing a discussion meeting at Bangladesh Krishibid Institution.

Awami League organised the discussion marking the Victory Day with party presidium member and deputy leader of the house Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury in the chair.

Hasina, also the president of the ruling Awami League, came up with the remarks in reaction to BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman’s remarks at a programme in London that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a ‘great Razakar’.

Without mentioning Tarique’s name, Hasina said people across the world, let alone those of Bangladesh, would not believe what he is uttering.

‘He is uttering heinous words. People will not tolerate this…This cannot be tolerated.’

Bemoaning that she feels hatred in talking anything about him (Tarique), the prime minister said he was uttering indecent words constantly from London.

‘He is deliberately distorting history to confuse people because Zia started this distortion, Khaleda Zia continued that and their son following the same footsteps,’ she said.

Hasina said Tarique making a terrible blunder as he was ignorant. ‘Had he been educated, had he read history, then he could have told the truth,’ she said.

Saying that he (Tarique) turned beast because of his ignorance, the prime minister said. ‘And the people of Bangladesh know it very well how to teach a beast a good lesson. The human like animal should get its due lesson and the people of the country will do that Inshallah,’she added.

She said another beast of history was Yahya.

Hasina said Tarique in his recent speeches talked like Yahya. ‘One will finds the similarity if he or she goes through Yahya’s speeches of March in 1971.’

Hasina attributed these heinous utterances by Tarique to war criminals’ trial.

AL senior leaders Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Suranjit Sengupta, Matia Chowdhury, Seikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Dr Dipu Moni, Ahmed Hossain, AFM Bahauddin Nasim and Kamrul Islam also spoke at the meeting.

Pointing at Tarique and BNP’s ‘involvement’ in the August-21 grenade attacks on an Awami League rally at Bangabandhu Avenue, the prime minister said their hands are stained with Ivy Rahman and many other people’s blood.

‘Like the trial of war criminals complete, Inshallah the trial of this killing will take place on Bangladesh’s soil…the killers will surely be punished,’ she asserted.

Recalling Ziaur Rahman’s role in rehabilitating the war criminals in the country, the Awami League chief said it was the nature of the BNP to help the war criminals as its founder Zia had stopped their trial.

The prime minister said Bangabandhu had started the trial of the war criminals just after the independence, Ziaur Rahman stopped it by scrapping the Bangladesh Collaborators Act through promulgating an ordinance after the 1975 political changeover. ‘He also rehabilitated the war criminals in the country as well as in politics.’

Hasina said BNP always claims Zia declared the country’s independence. ‘Had it been true why he stopped the trial of war criminals, why he released the 22,000 war criminals from jail,’ she wanted to know.

The Awami League chief also mentioned that Zia put anti-liberation forces in power and Shah Aziz who had vehemently to the country’s independence was among them.

‘Zia had made Shah Aziz as his cabinet member… He awarded Bangabandhu’ s killers. And his wife, Khaleda Zia, followed his footsteps. Had they believed in Independence they could not have done this.’

  1. At least Tarique’s language is not gross like Hasina’s. Zia’s family has been quiet for very long time. But unfortunately, very senior Awami League leaders kept insulting repeatedly the greatest freedom fighter Ziaur Rahman terming him as a Pakistani agent. They also undermined other great freedom fighters like M.A.G Osmani, Kader Siddiqui, A K Khandkar and many others. What Tarique Rahman is saying now are reactions to Awami League’s false acquisitions and AL’s unsuccessful misrepresentations of the true history of the liberation war of Bangladesh. One thing is good about all these. The new generation will explore the truths and put the right people at the right place of history. I was also stunned by Dr Tuhin Malik’s boldness here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vzrgJEfLAA

  2. Hasina is burning when someone tells the truth. All this time she has been lying and belittling Ziaur Rahman and his family. Her partisans and some ministers are even more nasty. Since they started rolling the ball of nuisance, it will keep rolling until the balls settles in the lowest point. They have elevated Sheikh Mujib to the “father of the nation” and now passed law, no one can say anything about the misdeeds of the Sheikh family. If a referendum is taken, the nation will reject the “father of the nation” designation which was unilaterally given by the Awami League and Sheikh Hasina in particular.
