$61.89bn received as remittance under AL-led govt of 2009-2013: Minister

Bangladesh received US$ 61.89 billion as remittance during the tenure of the previous Awami League-led grand alliance government from 2009 to 2013 during which some 24,51,093 workers were sent to 159 countries of the world.

 

Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Engr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain stated this in Parliament on Tuesday afternoon, replying to a starred question of Golam Mostafa (Nilphamari-3).

 

The Minister informed the House that works on two projects for setting up 30 new technical training centers and five new institute of marine technology are nearing completion, apart from the existing 38 training centers under the BMET (Bureau of Manpower Employment & Training) to create skilled manpower.

 

“For this, it will be possible to set up at least one technical training center each in all districts,” he said.

 

Engr Khandaker Mosharraf also said that the issue of setting up one technical training center in each upazila is under active consideration of the government following the directive from the Prime Minister to impart training to the dropout students of those areas alongside playing role in improving the skills of other training providing institutions.

 

Replying to a supplementary question, he said that ‘expatriates welfare desks’ are in place in the offices of Deputy Commissioners in all districts where a magistrate is assigned to render services to the wage earners.
