5 children hurt in Kushtia bomb blast

Five children have received severe injuries as a hand bomb blasted at Bhabanipur village under Bheramara upazila in the district on Wednesday.

The victim children are Rabbi, 4, Bappi, 10, sons of Anarul Islam, Pappu, 2, son of Sana, Sakib, 8, son of Selim, and Sifat, 8, son of Saidur.

They have been admitted at Bheramar Upazila Health Complex. Of the victims, three are in critical condition, said health complex source.

Witnesses said the children were playing at a field. At one stage of play, they started digging the ground with a sharp thing. Suddenly a hand bomb that was dumped on the ground, exploded as the sharp thing hit it, leaving the children injured.

UNO Rezaul Karim and Bheramara Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge visited the spot immediately after the incident.

While visiting the spot, the OC said police suspected that more bombs would be recovered from the spot.

“We are investigating and trying to find out the source of the damped bomb,” he added.
