Ministry discloses names of those who will be awarded this year

Fifteen prominent individuals were selected to be honoured with the Ekushey Padak, one of the country’s highest civilian awards, on Tuesday.

An order of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs made the official announcement for the fifteen individuals who will be honoured this year.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be handing over the awards to the selected persons in a ceremony at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on February 20.

For their contributions to the Language Movement of 1952, Shamsul Huda and late Dr Badrul Alam will receive the honour this year.

Samarjit Roy Chowdhury, Ramkanai Das, late SM Solaiman and Keramat Mawla were selected to be honoured for their contributions to arts.

Daily Samakal Editor Golam Sarwar will be honoured for his contribution to journalism.

Dr Enamul Haque and Dr Anupam Sen has been named as a recognition to their contributions in the field of research and education.

Jamil Chowdhury, Belal Chowdhury, Rashid Haider, Biprodash Borua and late Abdus Shakur were selected for their contributions  to language and literature.

Professor Dr. Mujibur Rahman will be honoured for his contribution to social welfare.

These 15 prominent individuals will receive an 18-carat gold medal, weighing three tolas, Tk100,000 honourary and a certification each.
