Zia was a Mir Zafar: Inu

‘Mir Jafar’ is a historical figure whose a name has become synonymous with “treachery”, and Inu has bracketed Ziaur Rahman with him, accusing the former President and BNP founder of betraying Bangladesh’s history and its Constitution after the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in August 1975.

Inu, also the President of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSaD), was talking to reporters after visiting a mazar (shrine) at Bheramara Upazila in Kushtia district on Friday.

“Ziaur Rahman knew that people had spontaneously participated in the Liberation War under the leadership of Bangabandhu and that he had taken part in the war as a Sector Commander under the provisional government formed (on April 10, 1971) with Bangabandhu as its President.”

Even after the Liberation War, Inu said, Zia had served as an army officer under Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s government. “But after the assassination of Bangabandhu, the scenario changed as Zia tampered with the Constitution and history of Bangladesh.”

Inu termed Zia as the country’s ‘Mir Jafar’ No. 4 and “traitor”.

He claimed that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, wife of Ziaur Rahman, had tried every means to cover up her husband’s ‘treachery’.

The Information Minister also criticised Khaleda Zia’s political activities, saying she would not be able to shrug off the sensational Chittagong arms haul case, August 21 grenade attacks, and corruption charges.

He visited the shrine of Hajrat Solayman Shah Chishti (Ra) at Gopalnagar under Bheramara Upazila at noon.

Kushtia district unit JSD President Golam Mohasin, General Secretary of the party Abdul Alim Swapon, Additional Police Superintendent Sohel Reza, Mirpur Upazila’s Assistant Commissioner (Land) Siarazum Munira and others were present there.

  1. Inu is bastard who was a part of a foreign inspired party to play another dimension. It failed. Now he got the mouth piece of Hasina and saying all the nasty stuff. This man should be brought to justice and probably hanged.

How dare he utter nonsense about Ziaur rahman who was the premier Freedom fighter. Where was Inu?

It is about time these idiots stop mudslinging. They are still playing the songs of the foreign governments just for keeping power through treachery and fraud. They will get the justice soon. Inu is running out of time. He is taking a very big risk by being on the outer guards of Hasina. He forgets Sheikh Mujib dumped democracy for family autocracy. Why does he not talk about BAKSAL? Was BAKSAL a democracy?

  2. It really does not matter what a riffraff like Mr. Inu says. His words probably have as much credibility as those of Hitler’s Goebbels.

If Mr. Inu has any sense of history and if he is left with slightest of moral courage, he should have known that it is Sk. Mujib and not Zia who by getting elected with the mandate to govern through a parliamentary democratic polity turned the whole system upside down into an one-party dictatorship overnight and thus it is Sk Mujib and not Zia who in fact betrayed the nation. Therefore, on this issue if Mr. Inu wishes to brand someone as ‘Mirjafar’ it ought to be Sk Mujib and not Zia.

Let us get the facts right. Mr. Inu wrongly blames Zia for august 1975 violent change of government that led to the death of Sk. Mujib, a large number of family members and colleagues and thus calls him a ‘Mirjafar’. This was unfortunate no doubt but, Zia had had nothing to do with the change of government in 1975.

On the other hand, by introducing BAKSAL, a one-party dictatorship that misruled, that closed all democratic means to protest and seek redress it was none other but Sk. Mujib that kept only one channel open for change of situation and in the process, brought unto himself the tragic and violent end that he and his family members and colleagues met.

Surely, what happened in August 1975 was tragic but this is no denying the fact that it was also inevitable and that we should never allow such things to repeat again. Regardless, history’s burning lesson is that if you betray a whole nation, temper with their freedom and deny their basic rights you end up paying a price that is hugely traumatic and most importantly, almost always unavoidable.Mr. Inu would do well to remind his colleagues of this unadulterated truth of history.

  4. I am so outraged that I do not feel like making a comment about Inu. Just to hold a position in the illegal Hasina government, Inu is taking too much of a risk for himself by making comments after comments about Zia and his family.I can very clearly see what his inevitable fate is going to be! He has been very disrespectful of Zia family for sometime, and unfortunately continuing unopposed to date. It is time that the freedom-loving people of our country give him an ultimatum to stop his blabber mouth, or face consequences. Referring to ADK’s comments, I would not raise his status to that of Goebbels. I am asking the media-related organizations in Bangladesh to not attend his press conferences or attend meetings/seminars of his Ministry, or publish/broadcast news by him or about him. Isolate him completely and eventually dump him into the ash-heap of history.

  5. Likes of Inu never mattered in this country. He is a parasite and will continue to be a parasite. This guy never had the guts to take part in the polls under his party symbol. He had had to borrow ‘Nouka’ to get elected in that sham election. He does not have a known source of income – a man who would commandeer vehicles to move from one place to other. Well, we do have a number of politicians of his colour in this country who are the real Mir Zafars!

Indeed, it is Inu and his cohorts, who are the traitors. They subverted the loyality of the men in the army, caused great indiscipline and death of number of innocent officers during November ’75. It is pity that the younger generation do not know the actual history of that period. History will correct itself one day. But, we have to make repeated efforts to let the coming generations be aware of the actual happenings. It was the declaration of that obscure “Major” who motivated the young urban youth to join the Liberation War!
