The country’s 10th parliamentary election on Sunday saw zero turnout in at least 32 polling centres in five districts.

Locals said the polling officials in 26 polling centres under Lalmonirhat-3 constituency wrapped up the voting without a single vote being cast.

The polling stations are situated in Mahendranagar, Borobari, Kulaghat and Panchagram union parishads that are known as the strongholds of the main opposition BNP.

Earlier on Saturday night, anti-election activists clashed with law enforcers and snatched ballot boxes from two polling stations of the 26 centres.

According to sources, voters in these polling centres refrained from voting in fear of further violence.

In Satkhira-2, widely known as a Jamaat-i-Islami dominated area, no vote was cast in at least two polling centres: Agardari Aminia Kamil Madrasa and Godaghata Government Primary School.

According to presiding officers in the two constituencies, the polling agents of all the four contestants in the seat were also absent during the election schedule.

Besides, only one vote was cast in the polling centre at Shialdanga Government Primary School under the same constituency, said the presiding officer of the centre.

A zero turnout was also reported in polling centre under Sylhet-2 constituency.

No one went for the voting at Ramdhana Government Primary School centre of Sylhet-2 constituency, from where missing BNP leader M Elias Alias was elected in the past, according to sources.

Locals said supporters of Elias Ali surrounded the centre since the morning, forcing voters not to cast their votes.

In Feni, no voter turned up to cast their votes in two centres in Feni-2 constituency.

In Rajshahi, no vote was cast in Maria Govt Primary School centre in Charghat upazila.

Confirming the matter, presiding officer Ishaque Ali said there were 2,797 voters in the centre.
