Youth killed in ‘gunfight’ involved in Avijit killing, claim police

gunfight SharifulThe man killed in a ‘gunfight’ with detectives in Meradia area of Dhaka city early Sunday was one of the listed six militants for whom police announced bounty last month.

According to a report on Dhaka Metropolitan Police website, the victim was identified as Shariful, who is also known as Shakib, Sharif, Saleh, Arif or Hadi.

The website said the young man was killed in the gunfight with members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police in Banshpotti area around 3am night.

Shariful was the chief of the military and IT section of banned Ansarullah Bangla Team. He was key accused in seven cases including blogger Avijit Roy murder case.

Police announced reward of Tk 2-5 lakh for information about Sharilful and six other suspected militants, and published their photographs in media last month.
