Qaumi madrassah-based organisation Hefazat-e-Islam on Friday held demonstrations in Dhaka and at different districts against the writ challenging the provision of state religion in the constitution.
Addressing the demonstrations, Hefazat leaders alleged that there was a conspiracy against Islam and threatened to go for a tougher movement if Islam was not kept as the state religion.
The organisation held demonstrations two days head of the scheduled hearing on the writ challenging the provision of state religion.
In Dhaka, the organisation’s Dhaka city committee brought out a procession from the northern gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the city after Jumma prayers to press home their demands.
In Chittagong, addressing the rally on Anderkilla Shahi Jame Mosque premises after the Jumma prayers, Hefazat secretary general Junaid Babunagari warned that Muslims would resist any move to drop Islam as the state religion from the constitution.
`We will sacrifice our lives, if needed, to protect Islam as the state religion. None will remain Muslim constitutionally if Islam is dropped from the constitution,’ he said.
‘We will declare Jihad from Chittagong if Islam was dropped from the constitution,’ the organisation’s joint-secretery Mainuddin Ruhi warned.
A procession followed the rally.
