A tribunal in Dhaka, which is dealing with war crimes charges of Jamaat Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed, has completed trial proceedings and is ready to deliver its judgement any day.
Mojaheed, a former technocrat minister of the last BNP-led alliance government, was indicted on seven charges, including murder, genocide and conspiracy to kill intellectuals during the Liberation War in 1971.
Justice Obaidul Hassan of International Crimes Tribunal-2, kept the case waiting for verdict as both the prosecution and the defence have completed their closing arguments on Tuesday.
The Jamaat leader was present at the court during the days one and 20 minutes proceedings on Wednesday that started at 10:45am.
The defence completed their arguments on Tuesday, claiming that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges brought against Mojaheed.
The prosecution, on the other side, having completed their arguments on May 16, claimed they had proved all the charges and sought Mojaheed’s capital punishment.
Mojaheed’s chief defence counsel Abdul Razzaq and another counsel Imran Siddiq placed their submissions mainly on “joint criminal enterprise,” “persecution,” “extermination,” and “aiding and abetting”.
