Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Thursday said that ‘funny’ allegation of crimes against humanity was raised against the party chairperson’s adviser Osman Farruk at the ‘order’ of the government to stop his voice at home and abroad.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a news briefing at the party central office made the remarks a day after war crimes investigation agency on Wednesday revealed that the agency was conducting primary investigation into an allegation of war crimes raised against the BNP leader Osman Farruk.
He said such kind of ‘heinous conspiracy’ was being hatched to disrupt mentally and undermine Osman Farruk.
On behalf of BNP, Rizvi strongly condemned the government’s such conspiracy.
The BNP senior joint secretary general came down hard on the government’s move to hurriedly enact new law in parliament to empower parliament to remove and impeach judges of Supreme Court instead of Supreme Judicial Council.
He said BNP thinks that such law is being made to fully control the judges and to unleash ‘naked aggression’ on them. It would create obstacle to conduct judicial function independently and people would deprive of justice, he added.
Rizvi said this law is being enacted so that judges carry out jobs according to wish of the government.
The government through passing this law in parliament would be able to further suppress opposition with cruelty, mass media and all rights recognised in democracy, the BNP leader said.
He condemned the government’s step and asked to step aside from passage of the law against people interest.
Rizvi also become critical of the government’s move to further control mass-media.
He said information minister Hasanul Huq Inu on Wednesday informed parliament that decision was taken to form media monitoring cell to ‘widely control mass media’.
He condemned and protested the government’s all ‘ill attempts’ to control media and asked to step aside immediately from  such ‘ill-attempts’.
Rizvi denounced placing Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman  and BNP chairperson’s adviser MA Mannan, Gazipur city mayor, into five days and three days remand respectively.
He demanded cancellation of their remand and unconditional release of them.
The BNP senior joint secretary general protested the announcement of doubling price of gas to Tk 1200 from Tk 600 for single burner  and Tk 1250 from Tk 650 for double burners.
He asked the government to immediately step aside from such ‘anti-people’ activity. Otherwise, he warned of waging movement.
