A parliamentary watchdog body on Thursday recommended vigorous monitoring on the use of internet, sale of mobile phone SIM and their registrations as violence against women is on the rise through mobile phone and internet use.

The recommendations came from the 37th meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Women and Children Affairs Ministry held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban held with committee head Meher Afroz in the chair.

The JS body also suggested raising the number of female police and doctors to help women as the present number is inadequate to meet the demand.

The watchdog body recommended the members of police to play a more proactive role in combating women repression and providing support to the oppressed women.

The committee favored quick expansion of Victim Support Centre and One-stop Crisis Centre at district and upazila levels instead of keeping it limited to divisional level.

Committee members M Sirajul Akbar, Zinatun Nesa Talukdar and Asma Zerin Jhumu were also present.
