‘Moja losss?’ posted the video on Sunday
A video uploaded to a Facebook page claims that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took a selfie during a reception at the parliament building on October 22.
The page named “Moja losss?” on Sunday posted the 20-second video that shows the premier’s gesture of taking a selfie – a self-portrait photograph – with her white mobile phone while sitting on the stage as chief guest.
The event was organised to accord receptions to Speaker Shirin Sharmin Choudhury and lawmaker Saber Hossain Chowdhury for their achievement in the CPA and IPU elections.
The video does not contain any text. However, from Hasina’s gesture it looked like she was taking the selfie.
On April 8, police arrested a schoolboy for slapping his female classmate after identifying the stalker through a video clip shared on Facebook by “Moja losss?” One of the admin panel members of “Moja losss?” helped the police identifying the stalker.
The recent trend of taking selfies by politicians and policymakers has been widely discussed and debated in the media.
State Minister for ICT Ministry Zunaid Ahmed Palak recently posted on Facebook a selfie he had taken when parliament was in session.
On December 10 last year, US President Barak Obama made headlines for taking a selfie during Nelson Mandela’s memorial service at Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium and sharing smiles with Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt and later with British Prime Minister David Cameron, as they gathered to pay tribute to Mandela.
Taking selfies at a funeral event was considered by many as poor taste in world media.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted a selfie on Twitter after casting his vote in Gandhinagar, India during Loksabha election. The post became a major trending item on the micro-blogging platform.
