US retailers have role in revamping BD RMG sector: Levin

 

Visiting US Congressman Sander Levin on Tuesday stressed the responsibility of the US retailers in revamping Bangladesh’s RMG sector.

During a meeting with Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Levin, Ranking Member of the US House Ways and Means Committee, said in the current globalised world all concerned have the shared responsibility to overcome any difficulties.

The meeting was held at the State Guesthouse Padma where Levin’s spouse Pamela Levin, US Ambassador to Dhaka Dan W Mozena, Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque, Commerce Secretary Mahbub Ahmed and Labour Secretary Mikail Shipar were present.

Dipu Moni at the meeting described in details the initiatives taken by the government to mitigate the sufferings of Rana Plaza victims.

She also mentioned the various steps taken by the government to ensure workplace safety and labour rights in Bangladesh, particularly the commitment of the government to amendment the labour law.

The meeting was followed by lunch hosted by the Foreign Minister in honour of the US delegation.

Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs Nilufer Zafar Ullah, MP, senior government officials and business leaders joined the lunch.
