US concerned over city poll violence

The United States (US) has expressed its concerned over the violent incidents ahead of city corporation elections in Bangladesh.

Spokesperson for the United States Department of State Marie Harf expressed her country`s concerned at her regular press briefing on Tuesday.

She called upon everyone involved in the municipal elections to uphold their responsibility to ensure the elections are free, fair, and nonviolent.

She also urged the security forces to permit free expression and association during the election campaign, to protect candidates against political violence, and to prosecute those who violate the law.
