US Ambassador Marcia Bernicat, on the completion of her first year in Bangladesh, has said in a video message that she is witness to the bilateral relationship as it “continues to grow”.

“The time has passed so quickly and has been both professionally and personally rewarding as I’ve seen first-hand how our strong bilateral relationship continues to grow and have seen first-hand so many collaborations”, she said.

The US embassy that sent the video to the press said Jan 25 marked the Ambassador’s first anniversary in Bangladesh, as she arrived on that day in 2015.

In this time, she has interacted with the youths in different programmes, who she said inspired her “the most”.

In the less than 2-minute video, she also highlighted her experiences that include witnessing the richness of Bangladeshi culture, reciting a Bangla poem on Victory Day, and the visit of the sandy sea beach Cox’s Bazaar.

She also talked about gender equality and women’s empowerment, and appreciated the hard work and hospitality of the people.

The ambassador said she would explore new places and reach out to more people as she starts her second year in Bangladesh.

  1. Ambassador Bernicat is a figure without any substance. She was chosen to play her ineffective role in light of the US-India joint cooperation. Bangladesh was left under the whim of Indian sphere. This is another example of American freckles foreign policy. They talk of human rights from both sides of their mouth but are right to the point when it comes to their personal interests.
