US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat has denounced the murders of Xulhaz Mannan and his friend Tanay Majumder.

“I am devastated by the brutal murder of Xulhaz Mannan and another young Bangladeshi this evening in Dhaka. Xulhaz was more than a colleague to those of us fortunate to work with him at the U.S. Embassy,” says Bernicat in the official Facebook page of U.S. Embassy, Dhaka.

“He was a dear friend. Our prayers are with Xulhaz, the other victim, and those injured in the attack. We abhor this senseless act of violence and urge the Government of Bangladesh in the strongest terms to apprehend the criminals behind these murders,” she added.

Earlier, Xulhaz Mannan and his friend Tanay Majumder were hacked to death in an apartment in Dhaka’s Kalabagan area.

Xulhaz was a former protocol officer of US embassy, also a cousin of former Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni.

He was also the editor of Roopbaan, the country’s first ever LGBT magazine.
