Unfreeze Khaleda’s bank accounts: BNP

BNP on Tuesday urged the government to unfreeze all the bank accounts of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia which were frozen during the 1/11 political changeover.

“Her (Khaleda) all accounts were frozen when the illegal and unconstitutional government had arrested her on false allegations. The accounts of the present Prime Minister were too frozen at that time and those have been reopened. But the accounts of Khaleda Zia are yet to be unfrozen,” BNP leader Nazrul Islam Khan said.

The BNP leader said this while addressing a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.

Accusing the government of evicting Khaleda Zia from her house to take political vengeance, the BNP standing committee member said, “She’s forced to live in a rented house. Additional money is needed for it. So, an application has been sent to the National Board of Revenue to unfreeze her bank accounts, but there has been no response yet.”

“We’re demanding that all the bank accounts of Khaleda Zia be unfrozen immediately as those were frozen illegally,” he added.

Nazrul also alleged that the transaction through bank accounts of Khaleda Zia remained stopped for seven years at the government order. Instead of expressing sorrow for depriving an eminent citizen of her basic rights, the Prime Minister, ministers and ruling party leaders are delivering indecent remarks.

Renewing their demand for arranging an inclusive general election immediately, the BNP leader said an election with the participation of all major parties can ensure a responsible government.
