Police have detained the former chief of BNP’s student wing, Sultan Salauddin Tuku, from Khaleda Zia’s motorcade on Monday night.
The BNP Chairperson was returning to her Gulshan residence after visiting her party’s senior leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at the Naya Paltan central office in the city on Monday night.
Rizvi fell sick at the office where he has been staying since he got in there dodging police watch last Thursday night.
Over the detention, a scuffle took place between the personal security members of the opposition leader and police, leading to a 15-minute halt to the motorcade in front of the party’s headquarters.
The opposition leader’s security officer Colonel (rtd) Abdul Majid and member Enam Ahmed were injured during the scuffle.Speaking to reporters, Motijheel Zone ADC Mehedi Hasan said, “We have detained him for interrogation because he was in the car that tried to run us over.”
“Some of our policemen were injured in the incident.”
Asked why the driver was not held, he said, “The driver ran away. We will try to know from Tuku if he wanted to cover up some conspiracy by targeting (to kill) me.”
