Opposition BNP on Sunday alleged that the government is forming a ‘torture squad’ to resist the 18-party’s planned harder movement after Eid-ul-Azha.

“We’ve heard from various sources that a torture squad is being formed led by a government subservient high-ranking police official in a bid to suppress the opposition’s movement through repressive acts,” said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed.

Addressing a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office, the BNP leader also apprehended that this squad may turn into a killing squad.

Rizvi alleged that the government is hatching various plots to return to power by subduing opposition as it got isolated from people.

He, however, warned that people will give a befitting reply to the government’s all evil designs through a strong street movement after Eid.

BNP has long been warning the government that they will wage a harsher movement after Eid-ul-Azha if they government does not restore the caretaker government system by October 24.

The party also announced to hold a public meeting in the capital on October 25, apparently to show its strength and declare its course of action to force the government to accept its demand.

Rizvi reminded the government that many autocrats like Hitler had formed various torture cells to suppress opposition, but none of them was successful in their efforts in the past. “The current regime is employing their all efforts to cling to power, but nothing can save them.”

He accused Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of spreading lies in her speeches at different public rallies. “You can’t be able to hush up the truth by lies.”

Condemning the alleged attempt by unidentified miscreants to abduct senior journalist Amir Khosru, Rizvi said they feared that the government might be involved in the incident.

He said those who are speaking the truth and writing based on facts are being tortured and repressed by the government.

Reiterating his party’s stance, the BNP joint secretary generally said their party will intensify its movement after Eid-ul-Azha to compel the government to concede to their caretaker government demand.
