Third council of Ganasanghati Andolon inaugurated

With a call to resist autocratic rule by forming peoples’ democratic government with the spirit of the Liberation War, the third council of Ganosanghati Andolon began its journey yesterday.

Zonayed Saki, convener of the party, inaugurated the council at the premises of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh near Shuhrawardy Udyan in the capital.

“The government is ruling the country against the spirit of theLiberation War. The situation in the country has gone to the level where people now have to demand the guarantee of a natural death,” Saki said at the ceremony.

In order to change this situation, people have to form their own political identity, outside the two existing political identities, he added.

The event was also addressed by Dhaka University’sProfessor Emeritus Serajul Islam Choudhury, History Professor Ahmed Kamal and Jahangirnagar University’sProfessor Nasima Akhtar Hossain, among the others.

Prof Seraj said governmentschange, but the society remains the same; there is no visible change is society.

“To achieve the emancipationof people, a social revolution is necessary; if it does not happen, the state will remain the same,” he said.

Prof Nasima said: “We see a culture of fear around us these days. Wherever we look, we see the evidence of state violence.”

Prof Kamal termed this government that of a “democracy of magicians.”

“We are watching what the magicians are performing on the stage, but it is a matter of great regret that we are only watching – silently,” he added.
