Bangladesh batsman Mominul Haque said on Wednesday that he was rather content with contributing for the team than running after the records.
Mominul has been in a good nick of late, hitting two centuries in his last two Tests, taking his number of centuries to four this year – joint highest with India’s Virat Kohli in 2018.
The 26-year old started this year with consecutive hundreds against Sri Lanka in January which made him the first Bangladeshi to hit twin centuries in a Test match and helped Bangladesh secure a draw in the game.
Mominul’s last two hundreds against West Indies and Zimbabwe came on winning causes as the Tigers claimed comprehensive victories in both the matches.
Mominul now has the opportunity of ending the year with most number of hundreds in the final Test against West Indies, scheduled to start on Friday in Dhaka.
But the southpaw said that he was more focused on his routine job.
‘I have not thought of ending the year with a 100 as I began the year with a 100,’ Mominul told reporters at Mirpur.
‘It’s difficult to perform if you think like this way. I always want to contribute as a player in the team. Every player has the same intention to do something for the team.
‘So I will also try to contribute for my team so that they can win. I believe if I can think this way it will be easy for me to perform.
‘I am not thinking that this is another opportunity for me [on surpassing Kohli]…I always think about my team like how many sessions I can bat. I always try to work with my plan and follow my routine,’ he added.
However, Mominul was confident of a series victory over the Caribbean side and urged his team-mates to remain focused in the contest.
‘We will take the field for winning the match as we have won the first game already,’ Mominul said.
‘I think we want to win the match and will play for winning. If we play to win then we will be able to clean sweep them. But we are not thinking about it as we just want to win the final game.
‘If we win, then it will certainly be a clean sweep,’ he added.
