Tarique serves second notice to Minister

BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman has served another legal notice to Environment Minister Hasan Mahmud accusing the minister of “offending him” while responding to his earlier notice.

Barrister Kaiser Kamal, the lawyer of the elder son of Leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia, told bdnews24.com the notice was sent by registered post.

Kamal said Mahmud while responding to an earlier notice described Tarique as an “embodiment of corruption and militancy.’

”Such remarks offended Tarique. We have asked the minister to publicly apologise to Tarique after withdrawing his comment,” he told bdnews24.com.

The previous notice was sent on May 27 after Hasan Mahmud had compared Tarique to ‘Raghu Dakat’, a dreaded bandit character in a Bengali folklore.

Tarique had asked the minister to apologise unconditionally or to prove Tarique’s involvement in corruption within two weeks. Failing which, he had warned, legal action against Mahmud.

Hasan Mahmud, however, had dismissed the legal notice and threatened to sue Tarique.

Tarique’s lawyer on Thursday again threatened legal actions against the minister if he did not withdraw the comment.
