SUST cancels integrated admission test

 SUST cancels integrated admission test

The first year admission tests of SUST are to begin on March 21

The authorities of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology have dropped the integrated admission test system on Wednesday.

The decision came from SUST academic council meeting, Shahidul Islam, academic council member told the Dhaka Tribune.

However, the authorities had made a decision to begin the first year admission test of the university under 2014-2015’s academic sessions on March 21, following the traditional system instead of much talked about integrated system between Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) and Jessore Science & Technology University (JSTU).

Earlier, the admission test had been scheduled to begin on November 30 last year in a new and innovating test system, with a dubious quota system.

Later, the university’s authorities shelved the date and the new admission test procedure amid students’ protest against the integrated admission test system.

Dr. Zafar Iqbal and his wife Dr. Yasmin Haque also resigned from SUST following the postponement of the integrated admission test system on November 26, 2013.

They submitted the resignations after a meeting which decided to postpone the integrated admission tests agreed recently between the SUST and Jessore Science and Technology University (JSTU), a cause Prof Iqbal has strongly been advocating for.

Eminent educationist and writer Prof Muhammad Zafar Iqbal and his wife Dr Yasmeen Haque, also a physics professor, withdrew their resignation letters on November 28.

They made the decision as the university authorities have agreed academic council to hold the admission tests according to its integrated system.
