Suranjit wants funds for stock market

Minister Without Portfolio Suranjit Sengupta wants Tk 50 billion set aside in next fiscal’s national budget to boost the capital market.

He made the demand in a discussion on the budget.

Referring to various positive economic indicators, he said, “I had earlier asked the Finance Minister and I am again asking him to form a Tk 50 billion fund if you want to boost the flagging capital market.

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Bangladesh Merchant Bankers Association (BMBA) had earlier made a similar appeal seeking such a fund in the budget for capital market rejuvenation.

Suranjit said that prices of essential commodities could be skyrocketing because of the central bank’s even-handed monetary policy.

He said that the country’s foreign exchange reserves crossed $15 billion mark.
