The United Arab Emirates sent out a strong message to Bangladesh ahead of their today’s Asia Cup match by bowling commendably against Sri Lanka at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Thursday.
UAE restricted Sri Lanka to 129-8 after opting to bowl and their body language clearly indicated that they don’t want to look like strangers in the main stage of Asia Cup Twenty20 tournament.
Sri Lanka clearly struggled against disciplined bowling by the team of some semi-professional cricketers as they matched their illustrious opponent neck to neck without giving an inch of edge to get over.
UAE coach and former Pakistani pace bowler Aquib Javed’s impact was clearly reflected in their bowling as they were able to keep up the momentum by restricting their mighty opponents in a reachable target.
Dinesh Chnadimal spared some blushes of the Islanders with 50 off 39 balls but was perished right after he reached the milestone. Skipper Amjad Javed paved way the first three wickets and others continued his good work to leave Sri Lanka with an embarrassing total.
The way their bowlers reacted in the big stage after qualifying against the odds, it clearly indicated that they are not playing in the tournament only to make the numbers.
Bangladesh need to win against them to stay in the tournament and a slip would be a severe blow to their build-up for the ICC World Twenty20 World as they take this Asia Cup a perfect platform to launch them.
Bangladesh skipper Mashrafee bin Murtaza said that they are trying to sort out their plans through the limited video footage of their opponents and not willing to be complacent against them at any stage.
‘We have got some video footage and preparing us accordingly,’ Mashrafee told reporters ahead of their match against UAE. ‘We know they can surprise us and we need to play well to get our result,’ he said.
