Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has said she will try to broker a dialogue between the Awami League and BNP to end the political crisis.
The call for dialogues between the two major parties bickering over the nature of the government that will oversee the general elections.
Chaudhury told journalists at Bangabandhu Museum in Dhanmondi on Wednesday: “I will try to do whatever is possible within the limits of law for dialogues between the two parties.”
Before talking to reporters she placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman there, a day after taking oath as the first female Speaker.
Chaudhury pledged to offer equal opportunity to all the parties in Parliament and urged the main opposition to join the proceedings during the budget session in June.
She sought support and cooperation from all MPs in her new assignment.
She believed empowerment of women has been consolidated with her election.
