SP Babul Akter’s job in Bangladesh Police has been terminated on Tuesday.
A letter has been issued in this regard by the Home Ministry.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, “Our honorable president has taken the decision in response to a prayer of Babul Akter.”
Three assailants on June 5 stabbed and shot dead Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, wife of Superintendent of Police Babul Akter, when she was taking her son to his school bus stop at GEC intersection in Chittagong.
Superintendent of Police Babul Aktar, whose wife was shot dead in Chittagong, formally submitted his resignation letter on August 15.
Babul had led several successful anti-militancy drives in Chittagong which is why police suspected this was the work of militants.
But after some arrests were made, the security forces said it was an attack by ‘miscreants’.
Detectives on June 24 picked up Babul from his in-law’s house in Dhaka and allegedly interrogated him for 14 hours.
On August 3, Babul went to the Police Headquarters but did not join work, and has been with his children at his in-laws’ house in Dhaka since the murder.
Babul is said to be mentally depressed and is not in a state of mind to continue work, IGP Shahidul Hoque said.
