The minister announced the decision after a meeting with the leaders of the Bangladesh shop owner’s association on Tuesday.

According to government directives, shopping centres at present shut down by 8pm to manage power utilisation.

Shop owner’s association made a request to let them keep their businesses open after 8pm during the month of Ramadan.

Last year, the government gave permission to keep shops open till 10pm from the 15th day of Ramadan.

The minister urged the shop owners to utilise electricity during that time and hoped to keep the Sehri and Iftar hours free of load-shedding.

He also requested the CNG and gas filling stations to use LED bulbs to minimise electricity consumption and asked people to avoid using air conditioners during the time of Sehri and Iftar.
