News - Sherman due May 26 to attend partnership dialogue
 US Under Secretary for Political Affairs Wendy R Sherman will arrive here on May 26 on a three-day visit to attend the second US-Bangladesh Partnership Dialogue-2013 and hold talks with two major political parties.
Sherman will lead the US delegation to the partnership dialogue and plans to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni, and the leader of the opposition, Khaleda Zia, according to US State Department media note.
The Partnership Dialogue is the premier forum for further expanding and deepening bilateral cooperation on a wide range of bilateral and regional issues, including development, civil society and governance; trade and investment; security and countering violent extremism; science and technology; women’s empowerment and gender equality.
The Under Secretary will also lead a roundtable with labour, industry, and government officials to discuss standards in the garment sector in the aftermath of the Rana Plaza tragedy.
Meanwhile, US Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs Jose W Fernandez will arrive here on a four-day visit on May 25 to attend a series of meetings with the government officials and business leaders.
Fernandez will visit Dhaka to participate in the second annual US–Bangladesh Partnership Dialogue from May 25-28, according to another media note of the US State Department.
During his stay here, he also will meet government and business leaders to discuss trade, investment, and labor issues.
The second US-Bangladesh Partnership Dialogue will be held in Dhaka from May 26.
