He said this during a discussion in the House on Tuesday on the condolence motion for his brother Nasim Osman, a Jaitya Party lawmaker.

Shamim also criticised the ‘propaganda against his family’ by the Bangla daily, Prothom Alo.

“Killers move around me. I don’t know by whose bullet I’ll die … So I seek apology from you in advance. Please pardon me if I have made any mistake,” he added.

Shamim expressed similar fears after allegations of his links with Narayanganj councillor Nur Hossain, the suspected mastermind in the murder of seven people, were raised.

The MP had earlier faced allegations of being involved in the murder of a schoolboy, Tanvir Ahmed Tawki.

Speaking on the condolence motion, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina highlighted the role of the Osman family in various fields, including establishment of the Awami League, and pledged to remain by their side.

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Abdul Latif Siddique claimed that the Osman family was a ‘victim of negative propaganda’.

“The evil force that emerged after Aug 15, 1975 is creating an environment to obstruct development. Narayanganj is one place where it is active. That evil force wants to malign the Osman family,” he said.

Shamim said, though politics had endeared him to the people, his family had been hurt by the ‘negative propaganda’ against his deceased brother.

Nasim Osman had died suddenly on April 30 while in India.

Bodies of the seven people, including councillor Nazrul Islam and lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar, who were abducted from Narayanganj on April 27, were found floating in the Shitalakhyya River on April 30.

Prothom Alo published a telephone conversation between Shamim and Nur Hossain held after the murder.

Denying his link with the accused in the multiple murders, Shamim said: “I want to say… we’re also human beings. Death of our relations also gives us pain. Our blood is also blood.”

He said his family members were not able to take the ‘oppression’ any more. “I would definitely not accept it. I never bow down to any force in the world other than Allah.”
