News - Shamim Osman, 4 others denied bail in Toki murder case
The High Court on Monday rejected an anticipatory bail petition of former Narayanganj MP Shamim Osman and four others in the sensational Toki murder case.

Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore and Justice Md Badruzzaman passed the order when the accused submitted a petition appearing before the court on Monday.

The four other accused are Shamim Osman’s son Ayan Osman, Jubo League leader Jahurul Islam Parvez, district BCL general secretary Mizanur Rahman Sujan and BCL vice-president Rajib Das.

Emerging from the court, state counsel Deputy Attorney General AKM Jahirul Haq told reporters that Shamim Osman and the four others submitted the anticipatory bail petition but the court turned it down.

“It was mentioned it the petition that names of Shamim and four others were not included in the FIR. The allegation was brought against him due to political rivalry,” he said.

When the bail petition was rejected, Shamim Osman’s lawyers appealed to the court not to arrest or harass his client, and the court said, “Shamim Osman held a press conference and police didn’t arrest him,” Jahirul Haq said.

Police recovered the body of Tanvir Mohammad Toki, 17, son of Rafiur Rabbi, convener of Narayanganj Ganajagaran Mancha, from the bank of the Shitalakkhya River in the city two days after he had gone missing on March 8.

Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Dr Selina Hayat Ivy and Toki’s father Rafiur Rabbi blamed ex-MP Shamim Osman and his two brothers for the murder of Tanvir Mohammad Toki while addressing a mass rally, organised by Sangskritik Jote at Chashara on March 15.

On March 18, Toki’s father submitted a complaint to the Police Super against Shamim Osman, his son Ayan Osman, Jubo League leader Parvez, district Chhatra League vice-president Rajib Das, general secretary Mizanur Rahman, Saleh Rahman Simanta and Rifat. Among them, Rifat was placed on a 7-day remand on March 20.
