Shakib becomes top wicket-taker among T20 spinners

Shakib’s haul helped Jamaica Tallawahs walk all over Guyana Amazon Warriors in the resounding nine-wicket victory in the final.

The southpaw returned 2-25 in four overs to take his T20 wicket tally to 242 from 209 matches.

He started level with Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal, who had grabbed 240 from 174 matches, and a wicket short of West Indian spinner Sunil Narine, whose 241 wickets came from 191 games.

Another Pakistani Shahid Afridi follows them with 239 scalps from 223 matches.

Shakib, however, is below six other bowlers in the list – all of whom are pacers.

Caribbean allrounder Dwanyne Bravo leads the chart with 341 wickets while Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga has been unable to improve on his 299 scalps due to an injury since February this year.

Pakistan’s Yasir Arafat has 280 wickets, South Africa’s Alfonso Thomas 263, Pakistani-turned-British Azhar Mahmood 258. Australia’s Dirk Nannes (257) is sixth with Shakib right below him in the list.

Shakib made his debut in the format with the national team in 2006. He has played T20 with 15 teams worldwide.
