While the nation paid tributes to the martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement, miscreants damaged six Shaheed Minars in three districts over two days.
bdnews24.com Correspondents reported the plaques for the martyrs at the Mahendrapur Primary School in Kushtia’s Kumarkhali, the Hossainpur Primary School in Narsinghdi Sadar Upazila, and another at the Badarpur SEASDP Model High School were damaged in the early hours of Friday.
On Wednesday night, miscreants had also defaced the Shaheed Minars at the Joduboyra Secondary School in Kushtia’s Kumarkhali and Boalmari Government Primary School in Pabna’s Chatmohar.
In Narsinghdi, the damage to three Shaheed Minars, two temporarily made of banana trees, angered the people including students, their guardians and teachers.
They demanded the arrest of the miscreants.
Badarpur Jubo Sangha President Rifat Bhuiyan said they had decorated the monuments with coloured paper. “In the morning, we found that the Shaheed Minar had been broken.”
Narsinghdi Superintendent of Police Khandaker Mohiduddin on Friday told bdnews24.com they were probing the incident.
Actions would be taken against those found guilty, he added.
bdnews24.com Kushtia Correspondent reported, quoting Mahendrapur Primary School officials, the miscreants damaged two pillars of the monument at the institution ground in early hours of Friday.
Earlier, the Shaheed Minars at Joduboyra Secondary School in Kumarkhali and Boalmari Government Primary School at Pabna’s Chatmohar had been damaged on Wednesday night.
Kumarkhali Police Station OC Lutfor Rahman said local Jamaat-e-Islami activist Shamsul Islam had been arrested over the Joduboyra School incident.
Joduboyra School management committee head Shariful Islam blamed the activists of Jamaat and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir for the attack.
